Many visitors enter our homes through our front door and step into our foyers. The foyer is ideally a place of warm greetings that give our people a sense of who we are, what we like, and how we live our lives. Many people outfit their foyers by placing something decorative on the wall and adding a piece of furniture to anchor the artwork there. Console tables are a perfect piece of furniture to fill that space in our foyer.
Speaking of material, console tables come in some of the most varied choices of any type of table. The majority, of course, are wood: oak, maple, walnut and cherry are popular, although the material can be stained or distressed to change the look of the piece. Glass tabletops mixed with wood bases are an attractive way to add dimension and variety to the design, and are also helpful for intermingling styles within a room. Glass is also uniquely suited to reflecting candlelight or enhancing the sparkle of your glassware.
When console tables first became popular, it was not uncommon to attach them directly to the wall; it was a shelf, but with table legs in the front. These tables were traditionally paired with a mirror and sconces. Now they come in enough different materials and styles to satisfy any design preferences.
